How the Internet is killing your Creativity

October 16, 2016

You might be surprised about the title of this blogpost, I mean, if there is a place filled with creativity it is the actual internet. Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, and lots of other websites are made for people to share their creative ideas and products. So why would you say that the internet kills your creativity

But think about this, if you are scrolling through all these amazing creative inspirations which you find on the internet, and you are soaking in ideas. Where are your own unique ideas? I personally love to look for inspirations online – don’t get me wrong – but it took me a while to realize that by doing so, I don’t spend enough time working on my own ideas. The very best ideas I ever had in my life, occurred to me in moments that it was impossible for me to get online. At first I was obviously pretty frustrated about not having internet and I desperately tried to get online – social media addict? #guiltyascharged – but after a while I gave up and actually kinda enjoyed being alone with my own thoughts without being interrupted by notifications.

Not having internet for a while feels like the brain suddenly starts getting more active again, thinking for its own instead of simply soaking in impressions. In the 1 hour I spent brainstorming without internet I was 10 times more efficient than I would ever be with internet. PLUS, the ideas that I got from this brainstorm session were 100% my own, instead of being influenced by others. And isn’t that something we all should aim for?

I am not saying: throw out the internet! Hell, I am most definitely still an addict myself so that wouldn’t be very fair. What I am saying is: consider tuning off every now and then and see what happens. You might actually surprise yourself :)

Lots of Love,

Lynn

The need to be creative has always been with me. But the funny thing is, I seem to need a beautiful woman to act as my muse, before I get motivated to create! Thank you for being so beautiful!? @myquestforbeauty
