The Best Low Budget Gifts for Valentine’s Day

February 10, 2016

Hi there lovelies!

This Sunday it’s time for Valentine’s Day again! Even though I believe you should be sharing your love every day of the year, there is nothing wrong with celebrating the day of love with your other half, am I right? I always hear my friends complain that Valentine’s Day is simply a commercial day from society to earn some extra money, so that’s why I came up with five creative ways to show your love while keeping it Low Budget. Can you guess which one will be my present for Alex?

#1: DIY Reasons why I Love You

Simple and Sweet: all you need for this gift is a deck of normal Cards and lots, lots, LOTS of Love! Write down a reason why you love your soulmate on each of the 52 cards in the deck, and bind them together like a little book. What is a better way to show your appreciation then literally telling him/her? And even better: if you don’t have a lover this V-Day, this gift could also perfectly work for your BFF or Mom: everyone deserves love! I found this cute Pinterest idea while checking out Everything Sunny Always, where Hannah explains about her present:

“I filled the deck of cards with 52 reasons why I love my wonderful husband. This is only a fraction of why I love that man. The list is eternally long. But for this project I narrowed it down to 52.”

Isn’t that the MOST romantic thing ever?!

#2: Love all year long: 52 Planned Date Nights

As I said before, showing your love shouldn’t just be happening on Valentine’s Day, so what better gift is there than a promise for a year filled with fun/romantic/cute/crazy dates?! Make a little coupon book with 52 pages on which you write down date ideas for every week of the year. You don’t have a cute coupon book, or no time to make one? You might as well use the Deck of Cards like ‘Reasons why I Love you’! If you have no inspiration for 52 dates you should check out ‘101 Creative Date Nights on a Dime’ from The Thinking Closet, she has more than enough ideas for you! Have fun:)

#3: A Special Breakfast in Bed

Who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? A small gesture to start someone’s day with a smile. I found this adorable idea on ‘Reclaiming Provincial’: a heart-shaped egg in crunchy toast! This literally couldn’t be easier since all you need is bread, butter and an egg. It’s recommended to first bake one side of the toast before cutting out the heart shape and then bake the egg inside the toast with the sunny side up. You can easily customize the breakfast with nice details such as hot coco, fig jam, cheddar cheese, ham, a fruit salad… champagne? Get creative!

#4: Treasure Hunting

Okay so if you have a bit more time to prepare for Sunday, why not make it fun? Leave little notes around the house with reasons why you love your other half, including some tips on where he/she can find you today! Or what about making it a quiz, and the first letter of each answer will explain where to go next? It’s all up to you!

What about meeting up at the place where you had your first date? Or go to that movie you’ve been wanting to see? A walk at the beach with a bottle of wine, or a picknick in the park? Is there a museum/ city/ concert your partner has been wanting to go to? This is your chance for a nice surprise!

#5: Last Minute DIY Crafts

Ups! You’ve been way too busy the past few weeks and you didn’t have time to prepare something special for V-Day (or let’s face it… you completely forgot). Don’t worry, there are lots of easy and fast ways to make your soulmate smile this Sunday. Here are some cute Pinterest ideas:

The Art of Fashion Illustration

January 22, 2016

It has been a while since my last Arty Farty Fashion Friday so I have set my eye on lots of new amazing inspirations and creative souls! I’ve been reading this book which makes me crave to start drawing again: The Art of Fashion Illustration. It’s a beautifully designed book divided into two parts: the Emerging Masters and The Icons. Today is dedicated to the first part, let’s take a look at some of the newest fashion illustration stars!

Audria Brumberg

With her very detailed and extensive production process, it can take Brumberg up to a week to create an illustration. Her style includes both realistic model figures (photography) and abstract patterns (sketching in nature). She draws every single piece of the illustration separately and then manipulates them digitally till they come together in a final work of art.

Her advice: “Constantly look at what other designers are doing and develop good taste. Follow design blogs and study the campaigns of fashion designers to develop an aesthetic and eye for good work.”

Sarah Hankinson

This Australian artist is mainly known for her focus on lines and contrast in her illustrations. “The use of a beautiful line can make an illustration”, she says. Her strong lines are contrasted by her colorful watercolor splashes which make the drawing pop. Later on she manipulates her drawing on photoshop to create clear focal points and make the illustration more visually appealing. “I try to make each piece a balance of light and dark, thick and thin lines, empty and full space.”

Her advice: “Although it can take a while to reach success, she says if you have the motivation to push and market yourself work will come.”

Pippa McManus

One of my personal favorites is in the book! This amazing illustrator is known for painting women on a monochromatic acrylic background with the focus on the woman’s hair and eyes. When she creates an illustration she goes through what she calls her mental rolodex of past fashion editorials and shows, choosing various reference images from pieces that she loves.

Her advice: “I absorb things I see quickly and sometimes subconsciously. So if I only look at designer’s creations and models, I’m much more likely to turn that into something of my own rather than draw from other illustrators’ techniques and styles.”

Yaeko Abe

Abe is one of fashion illustration’s newest talents. The artist from New Jersey began to illustrate professionally in 2012! His style is still developing but his line drawings reflect a simplicity which is not often seen in fashion illustration. Abe often uses different types of ink pens, and later adds colors with markers before adjusting the final piece in Photoshop. “Being loose and spontaneous is my favorite way of drawing,” he says.

His advice: “Keep on illustrating and utilize all your time. Also, be polite to even the meanest of clients.”

Motivation Monday: 5 Ways to Empower Yourself

January 11, 2016

New Year, New Chances. There is a saying “If everything seems under control you are not going fast enough”, to which I couldn’t agree more! However, sometimes it can be very intimidating to throw yourself at projects, opportunities, ideas and dreams if you are not sure what is going to happen. Will you be good enough? What if you are making the wrong choice? There are always ways to find excuses and reasons to stay in your ‘safe haven’, but will that really make you happy in the end? Maybe now it’s a ‘what if it goes wrong’, but in ten years it would become a ‘what if I would have succeeded’… and we don’t want that to happen!

Today I am spilling my personal ’empower techniques’ to help you chase your dreams and ambitions this year, because even if you don’t believe in yourself yet, I do! So many people (especially women) underestimate their own capacities, and because of the fear of failing they never try to cross their self-set boundaries. Make 2016 THE year that you rose above yourself!

1. REALLY think about it: why wouldn’t you be able to do that? Is it because you cannot do it or because YOU THINK that you cannot do it? I thought I would never be able to learn how to use Photoshop or how to do my own administration, but I’m getting better every day! Don’t expect magic to happen overnight, but appreciate every small progress you make, it will feed your confidence!

2. Ask family and friends what they truly think about you and your goals. I did this when I was starting my blog and I got some very surprising answers! Not only did they give me compliments or thoughts on things I personally never even thought about, they also gave me some very useful tips and interesting ways of thinking! Your family and friends love you, but that doesn’t mean they keep telling you that every single day, all you have to do is ask!

3. Where do you want to be in five years? Choose a long-term goal and then set up smaller steps to get thereLike this the ‘overwhelming ambitious goal’ is not that unreachable anymore! I decided that later on I want to become creative director/editor for a fashion magazine so that’s why I’m working on my own blog to gain experience, studying a master in art direction & creative advertising, and following the work of other creative directors/ editors to see how they work. Am I becoming a creative director tomorrow? Nope. In five years? Maybe… Good things take time, but they will be worth it.Empower Yourself 14. Decide to prove your negative thoughts they are wrong! You always have people not believing in you, and it feels great to prove them wrong as well. But let’s face it: usually it’s your own insecurity that kills your confidence. Just keep in mind that you (like any other human being) have ups and downs and you will surpass everything as long as you keep working on your goal. You don’t have to grow super-fast every week, but as long as you don’t completely stand still you are doing fine! Don’t be so hard for yourself, just remember all the progress you already made since you started and you’ll see that your work is worth it.

5. Keep reminding yourself of your ultimate goal to stay motivatedPersonally I like to dream about what opportunities I will face in the future, the things I will learn, the places I will visit, and so much more! I love to follow other big bloggers and creative directors because they show a glimpse of what I could be. I could choose to be envious, insecure and jealous of them, but what’s the point in that? It’s much smarter to watch them and learn from them to improve yourself. And besides why would you compare yourself with someone that started way before you did? They also needed years of hard work to get where they are right now!

Which of my tips will help you to empower yourself? Do you have any empowering techniques you were already using? Share it with us and let’s all have a BANGIN’ 2016 together!

Happy Halloween! 10 Must-see videos for Inspiration and Fun

October 31, 2015

Hey guys!

Happy Halloween! Unfortunately I don’t have time to celebrate Halloween this year (die-hard businesswoman stuff heck yeah), but that doesn’t mean I can’t share some awesome, creative, cool and funny videos with you! I have been scanning YouTube for the past three hours and I made a selection of some of my favorite videos. Enjoy!

Funny & Cool

Each year Jimmy Kimmel cracks me up with his Halloween Prank: asking parents to tell their children they ate all the candy. The reactions are PRICELESS. Can’t wait to see the 2015 edition!

Guys sure LOVE the sexy halloween costumes on girls, but… will they still love them if they actually have to wear the costumes themselves? Buzzfeed tried and found out

Or even a better question to ask: what would it be like if guys would actually act like girls during Halloween? Do you think it’s a terribly exagerrated video or do we secretly all acknowledge some of the stereotyping is true?

Now that we had some fun with Halloween Parody Videos it’s time for some other cool stuff… what about some easy DIY Halloween Hacks to get creative and original decorations?

FOOD

How would I be able to skip videos about food and snacks? Here are two short videos with some adorable and smart Halloween snacks & hacks

Halloween ain’t nothin’ without them Pumpkins!

Fashion/Costumes

Again problems with trying to think of a cool costume? Why don’t you try dressing up like someone from the past century who is dressing up for Halloween? You will be original without a doubt

Also something important to mention: perhaps we should stop with all the racist stereotype costumes? Maybe it’s fun for you, but not for the person who is offended by your stereotyping! Here is an example of Native Americans reacting to Indian Costumes. Spoiler Alert: they are NOT excited. #BeNice

Beauty/ Make-up

A vital part for your final Halloween Look! Beauty Guru and entrepeneur Michelle Phan is sharing some of her  beauty tips for Halloween

And to finish my list of favorites I just HAD TO share this incredible make-up video of Michelle Phan where she transforms into the bride from A Nightmare Before Christmas… What is this Sorcery?!

There you go guys, I hope you liked it! What did you do this Halloween? Do you know any other cool videos? Let me know!

Lots of Love

Lynn

Motivation Monday: My Bloopers!

October 19, 2015

Today I want to share an important message with you guys! I have been getting many admiring comments throughout the years which I think are very flattering, but also bother me in some way, so I would like to get it out of my system. I hear it all the time… people are so impressed with me apparently! I am travelling the world all on my own, I am chasing my dreams wherever they take me, I am slowly but surely building up my career, I am taking many risks and diving into the deep on a weekly basis…  and actually, I am doing pretty well for myself! Sure, all of these things are amazing and I couldn’t be happier about my life right now, but then again… literally ANYONE could chase their dreams with the right amount of dedication and determination!

Woops!

You thought all of my progress comes from being flawless and fearless? I doubt myself daily, wondering if I will be good enough and whether people will like my work. Honestly, most of the time I don’t even know what I’m doing! To prove it, I put together a fun bloopers video which shows the result of my first experiments with vlogging… far from #Flawless I tell you!

My Bloopers:

Train your Mind

Personally I am quite strict for myself when I am insecure, but perhaps my mind-training will give you guys some new ways to think about your own hauntings. Whenever I am feeling down and there is nothing left of my confidence, I give myself two options:  OR I’m going to sit in a corner and cry about it, OR I get over myself and do this f*cking sh*t! Because let’s face it: will you ever make progress if you act insecure? OF COURSE NOT.

So… lift your pretty ass and turn on your Warrior Mode: try to switch off your emotions and think rationally. What do I need to do to reach my goals? Which steps do I need to take? Sometimes all you need is to keep going and find your dedication & determination again… dreams don’t come true overnight and that’s okay, it’s a process!

Obviously everyone messes up every now and then. The point is to learn from your bloopers in order to grow higher than ever! Instead of being disappointed or embarrassed, try to find out why things went wrong and how you can improve yourself for the next time. Like this you will be able to look positively to all of your experiences: the Good AND the Bad. What was that saying again? Sometimes you Win, sometimes you Learn. With a positive approach to your experiences you will gain more confidence over time, tested and approved!

Are you ready to turn on your Warrior Mode after these tips? What is your trick to get your confidence back? Share your experiences with the rest of us!

Arty Farty Fashion Friday: Illustration Inspiration

October 16, 2015

YAY It’s Weekend!

It has been getting seriously cold, so I am cheering you guys up with amazing fashion illustrations! It is important to keep the creative juices flowing ;) You wonder why I love this specific style so much? As an Art Student and a Fashion Blogger it’s great to combine these two things that I absolutely LOVE into one concept. Fashion Illustrations show how important the art- and fashionworld are to each other, and how they simultaneously influence one another. Many magazines and brands nowadays use fashion illustrations for their commercials and advertising because it’s new, it’s creative, it’s fresh and above all… unique!

This week I decided to look for illustrations which portray women and fashion in several styles: abstract, sketchy, watercolour, detailed… I even found an image which was made in the style of the famous painter Alfons Mucha! There are so many amazing talents in the world and I see it as my mission to find the most creative and unique ones,

I hope you guys enjoy my journey :)

What do you think about fashion illustrations? I am very curious to hear more about other opinions on this topic. Also I would love to hear if you have a favorite and why, what would you like to see more?

And last but not least: BIG credits to all the artists that I selected for today, it was tough to chose but I had a great time looking through all the inspiring images during my search.

Lots of Love,

Lynn

P.s. The names of the artists are mentioned from left to right!
