It’s been a while since I wrote something.. That’s because I’m undergoing some radical changes in my life. One of those changes is something which I would never ever expect myself doing. And above all, I really hate going with the hype. Hypes are most of the time blown up, as if it’s some kind of faith that you totally have to follow because bla bla bla. But this is different. So, here it is, the most radical change in my life so far:
Lately I’ve been asked a lot what I eat in a day, so I decided to write a blog about it! I picked a random day as an example to show you guys what I eat, but obviously I don’t eat the same things everyday. Most of the time I eat pretty healthy, but I definitely don’t count my calories. I also think you have to treat yourself sometimes. This is also the main reason why I think I’m able to stick to my healthy eating pattern.
Since the last time we talked about the right workout gear, it’s time for the next step in our journey to better workout results: your eating habits. In order to get the body you want, you will have to work on the outside as well as on the inside, for which the right nutrition is vital. I talked to model coach Paultje Column for some tips.
As you might remember, a while ago Hunkemöller gave me the cutest workout outfit ever so obviously I had to test it! The written review is already on the blog, but now you can also enjoy a ‘tag along’ workout video with Modelworkout! I asked Paultje Column from Modelworkout to show me a full body workout which is not too hard to do by myself and will give me a fit body for summer, so here it is guys… You think you can keep up?! Besides, I also took advantage of the opportunity to ask Paultje some questions about his career as professional coach and trainer of models. Read the interview down below to learn more about his tips for getting that perfect body!
1. Be conscience on where you spend your energy
There is this saying… “What you Focus on, grows” and I couldn’t agree more! The 7DayRecharge program made me realize that I should spend more energy on positive experiences instead of the negative ones. I have a tendency to become disappointed in myself when I fail at something, which makes me jumpy and frustrated. Now I’ve learned to remind myself: “Grow your positive development, you don’t want to waste your energy on negativity”. Also it’s great to share this with the people around you because you will get lots of extra positive energy from them in return!
2. Bedtime Yoga is the best thing ever
Before the 7DayRecharge week, I never found Yoga something for me: I am too energetic, impatient, I can barely sit still. The morning yoga was okay, usually I don’t have time because I have to get to work, but it was a nice way to get your day started. However, I absolutely LOVE the bedtime yoga! After a long day of work and running around it felt great to give my body some well-deserved stretching and let it come to rest, my ‘cooling-down’ of the day so to say. Usually I am still too busy thinking about work and I have a hard time falling asleep, or I am too exhausted and I fall asleep immediately, but my night rest doesn’t feel that great because my body is still stressed. With bedtime yoga my body and mind get balanced out so I will be able to enjoy my sleep more, being more fresh for the next morning!
Extra tip! Something else I’ve learned regarding to bedtime yoga, in case your mind can’t stop thinking about work: Ask yourself “Do I really need this right now?” If the answer is no, it can wait till tomorrow, consciously decide to let it go and continue to focus on your breathing. Slowly but surely you will be able to ‘peel off’ your thoughts till you reach a peaceful state of mind.
3. Secret Addictions you didn’t realize existed
Before I started the 7DayRecharge I never realized how addicted I was to coffee and chocolate. It’s almost unconscious… going for coffee with friends, getting a coffee at work, grabbing a quick coffee on your way out in the morning to fresh up your mind. Without realizing I drank around 3 cups of coffee each day! I learned this the hard way the 2nd day of the Recharge Week when I got some serious withdrawal symptoms, not that fun I can tell you! I’m still having a hard time not grabbing some chocolate or candy as a small snack but I hope those cravings will soften soon. Anyway, my point is: think very well about what you are eating/ drinking. Is there something unhealthy you might be unconsciously addicted to?
4. Priority and Highlight Lists
Each night before going to bed I had to write down the highlights of my day, which made me realize I had quite some good moments and appreciate them more. It gives you a positive boost before going to bed, it’s great! Besides that, I also had to write down my priority list of ‘To-Do’s’ each night for the next day. The fact that you do it the night before gives your mind some extra peace because you don’t feel stressed you might forget something. Also during the day it’s nice to have something to hold on to in case you are feeling chaotic, it gives your day some extra structure and focus.
5. Celebrate your Success: small or big
Usually when I achieved something I don’t really celebrate it because I am already thinking about my next step. The thing we pay more attention to is when we fail in something because it makes us disappointed, which is not good! Because of this Recharge Week I learned to take some time to appreciate my success, either small or big. This way you emphasize positive energy and gain more self-confidence. December is here, and so is the cold! The Flu is around the corner but I most definitely do not have time for being sick! That’s why I have been doing some research on how to deal with your (upcoming) Flu with natural ingredients which you can find in your Supermarket. You can thank me later
1. No more Toxins: Keep your Liver Clean
In order to keep your body clean from toxins, your liver has to work hard! By keeping your liver clean, you will be able to flush out toxins more efficiently and thus prevent you from becoming sick! A good way to keep your liver clean is by eating lots of cruciferous vegetables such as kale, broccoli, lettuce and cabbage.
2. Ginger for the Lungs
Ginger warms the body and helps to break down the accumulation of toxins in the organs, particularly in the lungs and airways. By keeping your airways open, ginger can help to prevent the risk of infection. If you’re having a cold, it’s also great to help you breathe better trough your nose!
3. Lemonwater against Nausea (and more)
In this article, I explained that lemon contains Pottasium, which controls high blood pressure and reduces the effects of nausea. Furthermore, lemon has disinfecting properties, helps cleansing toxins and keeps you hydrated. Personal Favorite Tip: make your own tea with a slice of ginger, the half of a lemon, and a full spoon of honey. This is the ultimate Get Better Recipe, and it tastes delicious too!
4. Saltwater for the Throat
Scratchy throat? Add half a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water and gargle! The salt draws out excess water in your throat’s tissues, reducing the inflammation, and clears mucous and irritants from the back of the throat. The rinse also flushes out bacteria and viruses, which will help in case you’re getting a cold (or if you want to prevent one). Easy but effective, definitely worth a try am I right?
5. Ease your cough with Sage
Sage extracts work as a cough syrup, which helps your body move mucus out of your respiratory tract and helps to calm your cough. As a good alternative to cough syrup from the pharmacy, try a drop of sage extract in tea or hot water (maybe with the ginger/lemon/honey mix?)
As a last note I figured I should also quickly mention other common things I read everywhere about preventing the flu: keep doing (light) exercise, sleep enough, reduce your stress levels, eat healthy, get fresh air, wash your hands regularly & stay hydrated. Sounds good to me, I feel ready for the Winter now!
